Students’ lives vary in terms of interests and responsibilities. From Feb 12 through the 26 The Ville surveyed 219 members of the RAHS community about their lives outside of school. As of February 27th enrollment at RAHS measured 2242 students.
Most of the results are predictable and align with national trends. Below are our findings.
We are employees

Homework is only one stressor in people’s lives. Many students have time-consuming responsibilities at home and at work that weigh on them.
At RAHS about 36% of students work. The most common place of employment for Roseville’s youth is in the food service industry (36.6%), followed by: caretaking (18.1%), retail (17.8%) and labor-based (17.8%) jobs.
RAHS results match with national trends. A national survey done in 2023 by USFacts that showed 36.9% of 16-19 year olds employed.
Work schedules fluctuate. A majority of students report working twelve or fewer hours per week but 18.6% report working more than 18 hours per week.
We are Friends
RAHS students prioritize time with friends the most outside of school. Almost 49% cited friendships as a factor taking up time outside of school.
Students cited many activities that they enjoy doing with friends, but most commonly they hang out at one anothers’ homes, the mall, or restaurants/cafes.
We are Athletes
Almost 40% of survey takers say sports take up a lot of their time outside of school. Many students train all year round for their sports and others play more recreationally.
In addition to sports training, our students also spend time moving their bodies with 28.8% of surveyors saying they spend time working out and exercising.
We are Family Members
At home we help out when we can whether it’s common household chores or helping caretake family members. For a small portion of our community, about 5%, family responsibilities take up over 12 hours each week.
33% of RAHS students also said that family time takes up most of their time outside of school.

Teens and Screens
To no one’s surprise, screen-time dominates our time outside of school. Only 10% of students spend 2 or fewer hours per day on average away from their screens. Three of the most popular activities for students to do outside of school include: watching content, spending time on social media (34.2%) and playing video games (32.4%).
