Summer is here, and with summer comes warm weather. A-wing and B-wing are known for being warm and humid during this time of year. Hot and stuffy classrooms can be very uncomfortable for students and teachers alike. It might seem difficult, but there are ways to beat the heat and stay cool in school.
Wear light and flowy clothing
When classes are hot and humid it’s probably not the best idea to wear thick sweatpants and hoodies if you are looking to cool down. Wearing items like shorts, shirts, and shorts will certainly keep you cooler and it’s even better if they are made of breathable materials such as linen and cotton. These materials allow for better airflow and absorb moisture well. Even if we rarely go outside during school to experience hot weather, indoors can still feel like you are in a tropical rainforest.
Stay hydrated
Make sure you are drinking lots of liquids, specifically water throughout the day. Drinking cold water can keep you cool by regulating your body temperature. It’s extremely important to hydrate before, during and after a sport or exercise activity.
Optimize Fans
If your classroom has a fan, do your best to sit near it. If possible, make sure the fan is pointing counterclockwise. This helps circulate the cool air. If your classroom does not have a fan, find a tiny fan. Many stores have mini, portable fans that would be easy to bring to school.
In the Classroom
Avoid the sunlight from sun-facing windows. If possible, cover windows with curtains or blinds. Ask your teacher to dim the lightning in the classroom. If you are feeling ill due to the excessive heat. Don’t hesitate to ask to step into the hall or head to the nurse.
Luckily the final stretch of the school year is here, the days left can be counted on your hands. Soon the warm classroom won’t be relevant for the summer months. It’s important to take care of yourself during the heat of summer. Make sure to stay cool and stay hydrated this summer break.
