A very popular activity is visiting local lakes. Minnesota is known for its large number of lakes; over 11,800 in total. The city of Roseville and its surrounding cities have many popular lakes.
Lakes can often have crystal clear water and large beaches. However, some lakes may be dirty and contain high amounts of algae. They can also be overcrowded and overwhelming. It’s important to know which lake is best for your activity. Here is a list of information on lakes near RAHS.
Lake Johanna
Located in Arden Hills, Lake Johanna is one of the most popular lakes in Roseville. It’s often used for boating and swimming, as well as fishing. The beach features a sandy shoreline that extends far out into the water, making this lake great for younger kids. The lake is located nearly 2 miles from shopping and restaurant areas.

Lake Josephine
Similar to lake Johanna, Josephine is a very popular location in Roseville. The parking lot and beach are often swarming with people. This lake is suitable for swimming and wading, and has a designated swimming area. Lake Josephine is within a mile of shopping centers and restaurants.

Lake Owasso
Located in Shoreview, Lake Owasso contains a swimming beach and boat launch. The Lake Owasso Association has been working to protect the health of the lake and keep it safe for visitors. Lake Owasso is mainly surrounded by neighborhoods.

-Vadnais Lake is located in Vadnais Heights This lake is not as popular as previously discussed lakes. The park contains a swimming beach along with fishing areas. The park includes walking and biking trails. This lake has few shopping areas and restaurants nearby.

Lake McCarron
This lake is located in Roseville. Lake McCarron contains a sandy beach with a designated area for swimming. Fishing and boating is allowed in the lake. The park contains walking and hiking trails. This Lake is mainly surrounded by residential areas.

Turtle Lake
This is a large lake located in Shoreview. The lake has a swimming beach and fishing areas. Boats are allowed on this lake. Playgrounds are located near the lake. This lake is mainly surrounded by residential neighborhoods.

Como Lake
Located in Saint Paul, this lake is very popular for walking as well as photos. The surrounding area contains many different trails with many scenic views. Canoes and kayaks are very common to see on the lake. The lake is near the Como Lakeside Pavilion, as well as Como Zoo. Como Lake prohibits swimming. The lake water quality is not suitable for people to swim.
Long Lake
Long Lake is located in New Brighton. The sandy beach contains playgrounds and volleyball courts. The park also contains multiple picnic facilities. The lake has fishing and boating areas. This lake has a designated swimming area. If you’re interested in swimming in open water, this is a great lake to do so.
