As a freshman, Kazong Xiong is already stepping into the world of small business. While many students spend their weekends scrolling through social media, Xiong uses hers to create handmade flowers and grow her own business.
Xiong said she was inspired after watching videos online. “I’ve seen [flower videos] from other people online and decided I could give it a try,” she explained. What started as simple curiosity soon developed into a small business she takes pride in.
She began the small business on her own and continues to work independently. Although running a small business can be challenging, Xiong stays motivated with encouragement from her mom, who pushes her to keep going.
Balancing school and entrepreneurship requires dedication and discipline. During the week, Xiong focuses on her schoolwork so she can dedicate the weekends to her business. “I try to catch up on any missing assignments and get them turned in,” she said. By staying on top of her responsibilities during the week, she keeps her weekends open for making flowers.
Xiong also shared that she’s open to expanding and collaborating in the future. “Anybody who wants to work with me, I’ll be okay with,” she said, showing that she is willing to grow and connect with others as her small business develops
Xiong’s journey shows that entrepreneurship can begin at any age. With inspiration, determination, and support, even a freshman can start building something meaningful, to themselves and others. 😉
