With AP tests coming up in the next few weeks, here is some advice from an AP teacher and insight on how the new freshmen are feeling about their first AP tests.
Ms. Laura Jansen, the AP Environmental Science (APES) teacher shared advice for anyone nervous about the AP test, “Relax. It’s not that deep, It’ll be ok. If you don’t do as well as you want to, it was good practice and you can take another one next year.”
Students have been preparing for the test all trimester. Jansen said, “They do some writing practice, some content practice, some activity practice so we kinda focus on one unit of review per week leading up to the AP test and then the week of the AP test we do kinda big picture review.”
As a freshman taking two AP tests, AP Statistics and APES, Burn Hammond shared that they study by “doing the practice problems and finding practice problems on the internet and doing those.”
Hammond then shared how they thought they would do. They said, “I don’t think I’m going to get a 5 but I don’t think I’m going to fail.”
As someone taking the APES test, Cait Monitor said she studies by “keeping up with the work I have been getting from Ms. Jansen and just taking care of myself, making sure I’m not overdoing it.”
Though, Monitor notes about the fears she has for the test. She said, “I am terrified, not going to lie, I don’t know how it’s gonna go. I am not a good test taker…”
Maci DeBoer, another RAHS freshman taking the AP Human Geography test, shared that she has been preparing with “studying my vocab with Quizlets and watching Heimler and Mr. Sinn review videos.”
She said she feels “confident, but a little nervous” about the test.
A third APES test taker, Prairie McGraw stated how she felt, “nervous and excited, and I think I’ll do pretty good.” about the test, and studies with “Doing all the classwork she gives us and practicing at home.”
The AP Human Geography test will be on Tuesday, May 5 and the AP Environmental Science test on Friday, May 15. They are both held in the morning at Roseville Lutheran Church.
