Music has always been a big part of the lives of many students here at RAHS. We can see this in our annual musicals, clubs, and our orchestra and choir classes. Music also has a big role in the lives of our student musicians outside of school.
Music has had a huge impact on our community beyond our day-to-day school lives.
Since early summer of 2025 student-led band Good Trouble has raised about $367,850 to achieve their goal of building an inclusive playground in Parkview. Their goal for this park had gained the attention of many scholarships and grants. The band consists of many aspiring musicians including both Parkview and Roseville kids.
Music is one thing that has always bonded us as humans and formed what our culture is.
Being able to play and create music is an opportunity that gives students gateways to express themselves and have fun around peers. Gwen Goedken, (10), a trumpet player and vocalist of the band Good Trouble, states “I like to sing and making music with friends is super fun! I also always wanted to be in a band when I was younger.”
Student Led-Bands have always been a major trend with teenagers gaining popularity around the 1950s, one early pioneer being the Beatles, who formed in 1960. These bands are characterized by things like “teenage angst”, the desire of being free, or just a drive to make music.
Cafeteria Mystery Meat is a student-led band consisting of our students here at RAHS. The band covers many artists including: Radiohead, My Chemical Romance, and Weezer. The band perfectly encapsulates what it means to be passionate about music.
Melanie Becker, (9), the bassist and a dedicated musician of the band shared,“ It’s really fun, I highly suggest it. I’ve never wanted to deny myself more opportunities to play music, and it’s even more fun when I’m playing music I like and listen to”.
We can even see the impact music has on our lives outside of school.
Another student of an unnamed band, Mills Morris(9), said that “Well music has impacted me in a lot of ways, mentally, physically and morally.” He also said,” Music has opened me to meeting new communities, making new friends, and putting emotion into sound”.
Music is who many can say, is part of their identity, and has and will always shape who we are as people.
