The RAHS, the music department has many bands, orchestras, and choirs. At the end of March both symphonic band and symphony orchestra traveled to perform. Symphonic band drove 20 hours down to warm New Orleans, Louisiana and symphony orchestra drove all the way up to chilly Toronto, Canada.
I interviewed Cate Schneider and Amelia Johnson from the orchestra and Wesley Heidenreich from the band to see how the trips went.
Cate Schneider and Amelia Johnson, Orchestra:
What were some highlights of the trip?
We really enjoyed Medieval times. It’s a dinner show where people joust while being on horses. It was really fun and entertaining! We also went curling. We’ve never done curling before so it was interesting to do it especially since the Winter Olympics was right before this trip. Casa Loma was super cool. It’s a house that was built to look like a castle. We learned about Sir Henry and his wife Lady Mary and the history behind the house.
What was your favorite song to play?
Spirit of adventure from the movie up. This song was fun to play because it was upbeat and fun. This song was also special because we played this tune in a children’s hospital.
Wesley Heidenreich, Band:
What were some highlights of the trip?
A highlight of the trip for me was learning about the history and culture of music and especially how jazz came about in New Orleans, and all of the good food we got to eat on the trip.
What was your favorite song to play?
My favorite song to play was the Svanoe because it was fun to show off a fast and technical
song to the band kids at the school.
