Juniors at Roseveille Area High School are feverishly preparing to take the ACT, a high stakes exam for many colleges, on Thursday, April 16th at 8:10am.
On this day, there will be no school for grades 9, 10, and 12, and juniors are automatically registered—no sign-up is required.
The test will begin promptly at 8:10 a.m., and students will be dismissed around 12:15 p.m. It is important to arrive on time, because the ACT is a timed exam, and late entry is not allowed under any circumstances. Outside doors will lock at 8:10 a.m., and classroom doors will lock at 8:20 a.m. Students who are not in the building or seated by these times will not be able to test. There will be no makeup exam offered.
The ACT is a standardized test that measures a student’s readiness for college. It includes four main sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science. There is also an optional Writing (essay) section, but RAHS has opted out for this year.
Each of the four main sections is scored on a scale from 1 to 36, and the overall composite score is the average of these sections.
Students should come prepared for test day. This includes bringing a fully charged iPad (a limited number of extras will be available). A calculator is built into the test, but students may also bring an approved handheld calculator. Calculators will not be provided on test day, so students should arrange to borrow one from a teacher or the media center before April 16 if needed.
In recent years, students have approached the ACT with a more strategic mindset, often balancing it alongside other tests like the SAT. While many still take the ACT to strengthen their college applications, others are opting out due to the rise of test-optional admissions policies. Despite this shift, the ACT remains widely available, with multiple testing opportunities scheduled throughout 2026.
