Juniors Ayan Jabril, Ariel Jimenez and Theo Burrell are a group of students taking action to create a safe space in the Roseville community, while also hinting at the challenges our community faces with ICE. In an interview Burrell and Jabril shared ideas they had for an upcoming club.
What specific needs or gaps do you see this club filling in our community?
Jabril (11), explained that building this club in a time of need helps tremendously, letting people know that they have a safe time during rough situations like this. And build connections with people they probably wouldn’t have before.
Burrell (11), said that “I see it filling many gaps like showing kids that they can say whatever they need in a safe and controlled space and being able to feel safe”.
What kind of activities or events would you like this club to organize?
Burrell (11), explained she would like this club to organize food drives for families’ baking contests, so they’re able to raise money. And find ways to help the homeless and people in need such as necessities they need.
Jabril (11), further explained that food drives to help other students would be a big step for Roseville and have such a positive outcome as well as helping families in the area and some activities they would want to do is build a more tight knit community and see what the group has to offer in the future.
How do you envision the club making a positive impact?
Burrell (11), said, “ I see people feeling safe, interacting with the community and helping them out having fun games to do, and showing people that safety can be shown and fell through being with people”
Have you been involved in starting or leading a club or an organization before? If so, what did you learn from that experience?
Jabril (11), said, “I’ve been involved in a lot of clubs and with that experience I’ve realized it’s really nice to know there’s people with common interests and opinions as you that I would’ve probably never met if I didn’t join said club”.
Burrell (11), explained that even though she hasn’t led any groups of clubs, she’s quite excited to have a chance presented to her to help people in need as she’s organized events for previous clubs before.
