Book Review: Solitaire by Alice Oseman

Book+Review%3A+Solitaire+by+Alice+Oseman

Many may know Alice Oseman from her popular graphic novel series Heartstopper. What some may not know is she started her career writing YA novels. Solitaire was her debut novel written in the time period of the fourth Heartstopper book. However one does not need to know the Heartstopper stories to enjoy this book. Solitaire follows Tori, the older sister of Charlie, who is the main character in Heartstopper.

Tori, the protagonist, is an opinionated girl with a lot on her plate. She is witty, overflowing with sarcasm and often doesn’t know what to do with herself. Oseman writes from Tori’s perspective in such a powerful way that readers will not want to put the book down.

As someone who has read her graphic novels I loved the subtle and not subtle connections between but also loved it for the story it provides. But, whether you have or have not read Heartstopper, all can still enjoy Solitaire.

Rating: 8.5/10
