In Roseville Area High School something small like an extra pad in a backpack, a box in a school bathroom can make a huge difference. Starting in April, Soul Flo, led by president Aryana Berhane (11), is turning everyday items into a movement, tackling period poverty and stigma head-on at Roseville.
Soul Flo is currently collecting essential period products for its school-wide drive. Donations include items like pads, tampons, and other menstrual hygiene products, all of which will go toward supporting students at Roseville Area Middle School in Parkview. The goal is simple: make sure no student is caught unprepared or forced to go without.
But this fundraiser is about more than just supplies—it’s about changing how people think. By placing these products directly in school bathrooms, Soul Flo is helping reduce the stigma around periods. Instead of students feeling embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help, they’ll have easy, private access to what they need. This shift helps normalize conversations around menstruation and makes it clear that periods are nothing to hide.
Through this drive, Soul Flo also hopes to educate students. Many people don’t fully understand periods or the challenges that come with them, especially when access to products is limited. By raising awareness, the group encourages empathy, knowledge, and openness especially helping students feel more informed and less alone.
The reason behind this fundraiser hits even deeper. Period poverty is a widespread issue, especially for young girls, and it often goes unnoticed. Soul Flo chose to bring this effort to their school to highlight that reality and to support younger students who may not have reliable access to these essentials. By organizing this drive, they’re not only providing resources but also empowering students to come together and make a difference.
In the end, Soul Flo’s message is clear: no student should feel shame over something natural. With the right support, even the smallest acts of giving can create lasting change.
