It Doesn’t Take Much to Celebrate Earth Day

It+Doesnt+Take+Much+to+Celebrate+Earth+Day

Every year, Earth Day is celebrated to emphasize the importance of the environment by spreading awareness about the ways we can help the environment and how the environment helps us. As we approach the day on April 22nd, people can explore the many ways to participate, even if they can’t devote a lot of time or resources.

Here at RAHS, no specific events are planned to honor Earth Day; however, that doesn’t mean people can’t participate. People can reduce their waste, pick up garbage outside, or spread awareness regarding sustainable environmental practices.

For those looking to formally honor Mother Nature, there is an upcoming community event for Earth Day at Harriet Alexander Nature Center. RAHS Senior Grace MacDonald, who is also in RAHS for Climate Action, said, “There are quite a few ways for RAHS students to do something for Earth Day. There’s this celebration put on by Roseville that includes a park cleanup and environmental education led by an activist.”

MacDonald also mentioned honoring Earth Day by planting flowers or veggies or going outside for a picnic. Regardless, there are many ways to get involved with nature.

The link provided here is for the Harriet Alexander Nature Center’s Earth Day celebration, which will take place on Saturday, April 20th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There are also student groups at RAHS committed to environmental activism that students could consider joining. One such club is RAHS for Climate Action, which, in partnership with RAHS Progressives, focuses on ways that RAHS can incorporate more eco-friendly practices.

Other easy ways to honor Earth Day include cleaning up plastic, planting trees, using a bike rather than a car, and investing in community parks and gardens.

I’m a co editor in chief and this is my third year on The Ville. I’m a senior, and some things I like to do are cook, take walks, and watch TV. A fun fact about me is that my birthday is on Halloween.
