Bouncing Back from Summer

Bouncing Back from Summer

In those three months that we run wild and have carefree fun, we end up falling out of the school mindset. However, it is possible to pull yourself out of that slump and regain the motivation for school again.

During summer we are not getting assignments and projects that have strict deadlines, so when we come back to school it can be challenging to regain that same mindset. Since we are coming in from having no assignments to getting homework from five classes it can be overwhelming to have to remember when everything is due. Luckily, there is technology to help, an app called Homework Pal allows you to take physical note of those important dates. It only takes a few seconds to enter the information; you title the assignment, put it into a course, and select the day it’s due and it will notify you when the assignment is due. This is a great start to getting back on track with time management.

Another habit we fall out of during the summer is getting up early. Although I haven’t quite exactly mastered the skill of getting out of bed, I do have a few tips that help me wake me up when I’m struggling. The first is that I keep an ice roller in my freezer and use that coldness to make myself wake up. You can do this with an ice cube or even just a splash of cold water to really shock you awake.

My other suggestion for shifting sleep schedules is the app Me+. There are many amazing self care features on the app but the one I want to highlight is the alarm setting. Although it works like your regular alarm, it contains a feature in which you have to solve a mini task to shut the alarm off. As annoying as that sounds, it does a great job waking your mind up.

My final suggestion is for those who are struggling with finding general motivation for school. Coming back from summer where there is no set and structured routine like what school gives us, can make our days feel repetitive. I recommend  adding a little something to your schedule that takes you out of your normal routine. Recently I have made a pact with my friend to go to the gym at least twice a week and I can say it has already helped me feel more motivated and energized for a new week ahead.

Hopefully these recommendations can help you transition from summer back into school. Remember that everything takes time and to be kind to yourself in the process of self improvement.
