While being in PSEO, I had a sort of realization that highschool courses and college are in two distinct realms. I learned that college courses demanded skills that I hadn’t yet perfected which led me to comprehend how important it is to work on your skill set while still in highschool.
Enrolling in PSEO will either be one of the most beneficial academic opportunities or an extremely tough time that could negatively impact your GPA. It all depends on the type of student you are and your learning style. Dr Vang, an AVID counselor here at Roseville said, “PSEO is typically better for students with good time management skills who can keep up with the course load”.
Student Amran Mohamed does her PSEO courses in person through Concordia College while student Maida Adan does her PSEO courses online through Saint Paul College.
Mohamed started her in person classes this semester and said “it’s definitely been tough but much more manageable and better than when I was doing my courses online last semester”. Last semester she was having a tough time with balancing her online classes, as she said. But now that her classes are in person, she has more time with her professor and says she learns more efficiently than when she had to manage herself. Mohamed is the type of student who does better in a classroom setting. I’m sure many more students are just like her in regards to their learning style.
However this might not be the case for everyone, a prime example would be student Maida Adan, also a PSEO student.
Student Maida Adan began PSEO for the first time this spring semester. So far, she said, “ It’s something new and definitely hard but I’ve been trying my best to make it work which makes the road so much smoother. The course can be daunting, but I know in the back of my head that I can’t fail a college course because it’ll ruin my transcript.”
For students who are motivated like Adan, doing good in PSEO courses becomes a priority. It becomes a priority that can’t be ignored due to its extreme importance. Adan is the type of student who has the skill set to succeed in online classes.
PSEO is a program available for 10-12th grade students that allows you to earn college credit while still in high school. There are two ways students can take PSEO courses. Students can do PSEO on a full- or part time basis. After enrolling in PSEO, a student can either go to their courses in person or complete them online at their high school. Now depending on a student’s skill set, in person might be better for your learning or for others maybe online would be better for you. How much time you’re willing to sacrifice while still balancing your high school all depends on your dedication.
To reiterate, everyone is different and their skill sets and learning style and picking the correct classes that will help you succeed is crucial in PSEO.
