Erik at the Movies: Avatar

Erik at the Movies: Avatar

Erik Larson, Staff Writer

Avatar (2009) is the highest grossing film of all time, and it’s not hard to see why. The story is about a human soldier who travels to another world and is tasked with becoming a member of the indigenous Na’vi people in order to steal their resources, but falls in love and then proceeds to lead them in a revolt against their oppressors.

Its title is in reference to the “Avatar” Na’vi bodies that the humans use to look like the natives. Most theaters showed it in 3D, and the movie benefits from the effect, but it isn’t nearly as groundbreaking as everyone said the extra dimension would be. Its visual effects hold up surprisingly well, despite being 13 years old.

In conclusion, I’m excited for the sequel coming this December. 8/10.
