RAHS students tote bags full of ipads, books and other school supplies from class to class and, in a few months the chill will set in, requiring the additional baggage of winter wear. But, where RAHS students choose to stow their stuff throughout the school day varies. With many different activities this year and such short passing time, only some RAHS students choose to use school furnished lockers.
Overall RAHS students seem to think that lockers can be either hard to use or somewhat helpful for the winter. Generally students in after school activities tend to find lockers more helpful; otherwise most students just find them to be a little to no help.
Regarding how helpful the lockers are freshman Cait Monitor said, “for some people it is [helpful] and for some people it isn’t.” She added, “some of us need storage for certain things like bags, coats, boots, all sorts of stuff.”
Similar to Moniter, freshman Maci Deboer said the way she uses her locker is to “put my volleyball bag in it before school.”
Some RAHS students cited confusion or drawbacks to locker usage.
Senior Venus Eason had hopes of using a locker but it didn’t work out. She said that, “Last year I got a locker and bought a lock, but when I was ready to use it, I found someone else’s lock on it.” Also claiming that, “the lock system is not clear. I would like to use a locker but it’s too much work.”
Logan Dam (12) also cited confusion about locker use. Dam stated, “I don’t have a locker. In freshman year I had gym first hour and couldn’t figure out how to open the lockers. Now I just leave my coat in Mr. Hemmerlin’s room.”
An issue freshman Heidi Buck mentioned regarding their locker was that “I lost my locker code” also saying “I would use it if I could.”
Sophomore Dallas Churcher stated she doesn’t have a locker because “I don’t feel like walking back and forth within the school.” She also states that “I carry my coat [and things] around.”
Makuhi Njorogu (12) said, “I do not have a locker but I would want for winter for my jacket.”
She also says that “I found that I have used my locker less frequently each year.”
Similar to what Makuhi said, freshman Brianna Montaovo stated, “I don’t really use my locker that often. I only use it in the winter to get my coat and that’s about it.”
