The Roseville Ultimate Frisbee team (The Roseville Riptide) is a small, but high-spirited team whose season is September 5th through October 25th. They are one of the smallest Roseville teams, with 21 players in grades 8 through 12, and the only one officially considered a club.
Head coach Thomas Mattimiro stated that his goals for the team this year (both in the fall and spring seasons) was to “build on our success from last year, but also it’ll be a little bit of a growth year, we graduated a lot of people, we’ll also make sure our freshman and new players are well equipped heading into the spring season.”
At 22 people they have a good mix of new and experienced players, and they are also looking for more players for the spring season. Eli Johnson (10) who played his 9th grade year, said “We have players of all levels, people who are playing at a high level and also bringing new players in, we have a great community and it’s tons of fun.”
The youngest player on the team Parker Popowski (8) when asked why he chose to join “My family’s done it my whole life, my brothers doing it, I’ve gone to the games my whole life, just fun sport, got into it, tons of fun”.
Note: The Riptide team is able to have RAMS middle schoolers in the fall and 1 RAMS middle schooler in the spring.
Usually they have around 20 players registered each Spring High School League Season, meaning they do not require tryouts to join the team. Riptide Ultimate Frisbee is open to both boys and girls that attend RAHS.
Spring season starts late February with registration opening in early February and closing before Spring Break.
In Spring 2024 Riptide created a program which allows students to Letter in Ultimate, and they hosted their first Annual Senior Night. The Riptide also annually host an Alumni Game that has become a favorite for players of all ages.
