Here at RAHS, students go to their homeroom every Wednesday to learn and interact with their peers. Students and staff are happy with the new addition for the 2024-2025 school, but like anything else, there could still be changes made.
With seemingly a new extra period added every year, with raider time, to rise time, and now homeroom, which is the only one of the three that will be returning to RAHS for a second year. So, what has led to the success of homeroom? Senior Lily Peterfeso said, “It is a good time to talk to friends, get work done, and in my opinion, it is a great addition, and I wish they had added it sooner.”
But with random placements, some people dislike their homeroom. Junior Jackson Hahn said, “I would enjoy homeroom more if I had closer friends in it.”
Other students enjoy their time in homeroom solely because of their friends who are in the class. Senior Aidan Simmons said, “Because I have some of my best friends in homeroom, I enjoy it, but I could easily see how someone with none of their friends would dislike the class.”
Some students believe homeroom is a space where students should have the opportunity to make new friends, there should be more group work to be able to bond with peers. Junior Spencer Barta said, “I have fun in homeroom, but part of me wishes that there were less videos to watch and more time to socialize with my classmates.”
Homeroom implements a strong learning environment about our different history months, we learn about the people of our country, and it is a great addition to the curriculum at RAHS. With a return to school next year, homeroom is looking like a permanent part of the schedule here at RAHS.
Some students have recommendations about the system of homerooms going into next year. Senior Lily Peterfeso said, “Although I’m not returning next year, I think they should try a new homeroom every trimester, especially for students who do not enjoy theirs.”
