Students at RAHS took the ACT test on April 17th. Opinions and comments about the test overall. While some students felt nervous leading up to the test, many felt prepared and ready to go.
Students claimed that timing themselves while doing practice questions helped prepare them for the test as a whole. Max Amundson (11) said, “Shortening each practice test time and questions to a third helped me get a bunch of practice in a good amount of time.”
Math being a tough subject showed troubles throughout the test. Justin Gutierrez (11) said, “For me, trying to remember the math formulas was the part I struggled with the most.”
Reading as well seemed to be the most common area where students felt like they struggled the most.
Calvin McCabe (11) said, “Trying to find evidence from the stories, while answering different types of questions troubled me.”
Even with much preparation and advice from older students, there are still some unanticipated things that happen during the test. With time being a common factor, the math section of the test seemed to be a very brought up answer.
“No practice test I had taken before was that difficult, even my senior friends had said the first couple of questions of the test were easy.” Kaden Ellingson said.
Students used many different strategies used throughout the test.
Not knowing an answer and guessing, “cherry picking” meaning only looking at a certain part of the excerpt or example and relating it to the question, were all common.
One strategy that stood out was finding out how much time the test taker had to complete each question.
Most if not all students have one thing they wish they could have done differently.
Jackson Hahn (11) said, “I took way too much time on some questions and it affected me in the end, making me rush or even guess.”
“Not just doing practice tests and actually studying the material I think would have benefited me on a good amount of questions.” Amundson said.
