Seniors in NHS are currently finishing their Senior Projects in order to give back to the community. Here are some highlights.
Marit Haugens Bake Sale
Marit Haugen’s (12) senior project is an organized bake sale, with 100% of the proceeds going to Kesem- an organization that raises money for kids whose parents have cancer. NHS members contributed by making various baked goods to sell at the Roseville Track Meet on April 22nd.
She shared her goals of how it would impact the Roseville Community. She said, “I hoped to increase the community’s knowledge and participation in various organizations. By learning about an organization, people will hopefully be motivated to either donate to Kesem or take time to research an organization that they care about.”
Haugen stated she got this idea from the NHS advisor Ms Kyllonen. She said, “I instantly knew this was the organization I wanted to donate to as my mom was diagnosed, battled and beat cancer my sophomore year.”
She stated it was important for her to have support during this time and that is what she carried forward. She said, “The support from people in my community was crucial during that period of my life, and I wanted to help support other kids who were going through the same situation that I had.”
Birthday Gifts for Kids in Need
Student Anthony Black (12) and Melia Conrath (12) created an impactful senior project. Their project aimed to raise funds for kids’ birthday gifts, which will be held in the RAHS food shelf.
The project raised 1,116 dollars, and will impact the lives of at least 50 kids.
Black shared a bit about the goals of the project and what was achieved. The project included two successful days bagging groceries at Cub.
Black hoped that the impact will cheer someone up. He said, “I hope that it gives someone a reason to have a good day when receiving a gift.”
The project was created with the help of NHS advisor Ms Kyllonen.
Smash For Cash- Pickleball Tournament
Peter Linabery (12) and Ryan Duce (12) senior project included a pickleball tournament to raise money for the tennis team. Linabery shares how he came up with the idea and what they achieved.
Linabery said, “We chose pickleball because it has a lower skill threshold and it is all the rage right now.”
Additionally, he shared his goals for the project, he said, “I hope to help the Roseville community by offering opportunities to learn and play new or popular sports.”
He added, “Duce and I have coached tennis in Roseville for many years and we really like helping other people find passion for a sport we already love.”
He shared his thoughts on how he came up with this project. He said, “Me and Ryan wanted to do something active and related to tennis because tennis is an expensive sport.”
Their smash for cash project is completed. It was held at RAMS Saturday April 19th. There was a large level of participation and 75$ was raised for the tennis team. It was less because they provided snacks and a cash prize for the winner.
