At Roseville Area High School, there are a multitude of activities that will occur throughout the summer that all students can participate in and reap the benefits of. These activities and programs are opportunities for students to further their education and gain experience in different areas to prepare them for college and adult life.
CAMPS
Throughout the summer there will be several camps involving different areas that will take place. Starting with Best Prep Minnesota Business Venture, this is an opportunity for students interested in business development and networking. Minnesota Business Venture students work in small teams and participate in activities that build career skills, technology skills, and financial literacy skills.
AVID students have the opportunity to be a student leader at the Minneapolis AVID Summer Institute. Students will speak with educators about their experience in AVID and have the opportunity to gain leadership skills and strategies.
Student May Oo, sophomore and former student leader said the AVID summer institute was “a fun time to connect with other AVID students and good for my resume”. This opportunity provided Oo with a strengthened foundation in leadership and networking skills.
JOBS
For high school students the summer is the most convenient time for a job. At Roseville Area High School, there are many job opportunities available this summer. Many of these jobs cater to different areas so for example if a student is interested in construction, they may be interested in becoming a Crew Member at Tree Trust. At Tree Trust, students can gain hands-on experience working on outdoor construction and landscapes. The wage for this job is $12.00/hour.
For students interested in gaining leadership skills and polishing up their resume, there is the opportunity of becoming a Community Recreation Leader for the City of Saint Paul. This job provides an environment for students to become more adept at taking leadership roles. The wage for this job ranges from $17-$23.
As always, there is the opportunity to work at the many food stalls at the Minnesota State Fair. Every year, many students are interested and obtain a job at the State Fair.
Student Baydan Abdiqafar, grade 11 said, “Working at the State Fair can be hectic with all the chaos going on but it can also be fun, especially if you’re working with friends”. Wages for jobs at the State Fair usually range anywhere from $14-$16/hour.
