With the addition of homeroom to the 2024-25 schedule, the RAHS Report has returned and is better than ever.
On the Wednesday of each week, homeroom teachers and students are informed of school-related information, activities, and events, primarily through the school’s student-run news station — the RAHS Report.
Each episode is written and recorded by students, and includes topics such as sports, the cafeteria menu, weather, clubs, and more.
Michelle Lay (12) is part of this trimester’s News group, and has participated as a weather, sports, and lunch anchor. In addition, Lay has experience as a playback pro where she helped film transitions and edit.
Although the RAHS Report videos are short in length, there is significant effort that goes into planning, writing, editing, and interviewing. According to Lay, it’s sometimes hard for writers to come up with the trivia questions and segments because they want to ensure that the content is engaging.
Lay said, “If everyone is locked in, filming takes around a day, but sometimes if people are new to their role it takes longer.”
Many students agree that the weekly viewings of the RAHS Report have helped them become more informed about what’s happening in the school. In the past, it was hard for students to access news and information in one place, and many were unaware of certain clubs or events.
Lily Peterfeso (12) said, “I think it’s really informational and helpful for kids who are looking for a new club to be part of.”
Overall, the RAHS Report has brought a new sense of community and connectedness to the school environment. If you’re looking to join, the group is going to start running as a club after school on Mondays beginning in December.
