One major new occurrence here at RAHS is the new homeroom schedule. On Wednesdays now, students are required to attend homeroom after third period. However, challenges have arisen due to this change.
Because of the shorter class periods on Wednesdays, students now must get to their classes one minute quicker, meaning they experience a five minute passing time opposed to a six minute one like how they’re used to.
This difference in Wednesday schedules has become an issue for many RAHS students for various reasons. Grace Langeslay MacLeod (11) said, “It makes it really hard to get to my math class on time, six minutes is already cutting it close from E wing to A wing but five minutes makes it nearly impossible.”
Many other students have complained about this issue in similar ways. For example, Brielle Soler (10) said, “I go to the bathroom in between classes so I’m not missing my class, but when I only have five minutes for passing time there’s no time for me to go to the bathroom.”
These numerous drawbacks are leaving some students feeling rushed, as well as feeling they do not have enough social time that day. Soler added, “It affects my social time because I’m not able to meet my friends and walk with them part of the way to their class.”
These issues have seemed to be affecting the majority of RAHS students, with multiple complaints of increasingly crowded hallways. Tae Jones (10) said, “A lot of people are in your way but everyone is trying to get where they need to be.”
Overall, crowded hallways, limited social time, and rushing to class has been a challenge. So people have been finding the adjustment to this new addition of changes rather difficult but since it only happens once a week it doesn’t feel too drastic or difficult to come to terms with.
