Pierre MacGillis is an English teacher at RAHS who has been teaching for 24 years. Before becoming a teacher he was a social worker, supporting individuals struggling with addiction. He is also half French Canadian, which adds to his unique perspective.
Mr. MacGillis’s favorite class to teach is College in the Schools Literature, where he explores deep connections between life, psychology, and history.
Outside of the classroom he enjoys “walking through the woods, hiking, playing piano and ukulele, and making applesauce; but most of all I like to spend time with my young daughter.”
MacGillis has traveled around the world to many regions and countries, which helps him gain cultural knowledge to teach his classes.
MacGillis spent a year abroad in Nepal where he broadened his understandings of the world. He reflected, “I enjoyed living with Nepali people and learning about different cultures.”
He is also fond of the West Coast and lived in Portland, Oregon for a couple years.
One of his most memorable trips was to Japan. He said, “it was so interesting to be in Tokyo and learn more about Japanese culture and schools.”
Overall, Mr. MacGillis is one of Roseville’s most traveled teachers, with knowledge of many cultures, religions, and celebrations. He loves his family, the outdoors, and getting to teach great books to his students.
