As the school year comes to an end, seniors Naveena Srinivasan and Oren Wolfe add the final touches to their murals. For the past few months, the two have been working diligently on their respective works of art in the music commons and FACS department.
Both Srinivasan and Wolfe reflect on what they’ve learned throughout the process, explaining how they now know much more about planning, time management, colors, and overall working on a large scale art piece.
“It’s definitely been difficult for me to manage my time in between school and work to paint but I think it’s been a very helpful experience for the future,” said Wolfe.
Srinivasan and Wolfe are both graduating high school this year. Wolfe plans to major in Computer Science, and says he wants to use that degree in a more creative field such as video game design or special effects. Although both are looking to pursue degrees outside of art, they want to continue to make it a part of their lives.
“I’d love to join another art club in college or stay connected with the arts with dance or music,” said Srinivasan.
When looking back on their freshmen year selves, Srinivasan and Wolfe remark on how much they have changed as artists and people. Their art styles and personalities have since grown significantly, and as freshmen a project this big would have seemed extremely intimidating. Both artists credit last year’s muralist Aleya Berry with giving them the confidence and inspiration to pursue their own projects.
“Working with Aleya last year was an inspiration, and I was able to picture what it would be like to paint my own mural with my personal art style,” says Srinivasan.
Srinivasan had her mural revealed on May 20th, where friends and family listened to a heartwarming speech and watched as she unveiled her art piece. Wolfe is in the final stages of finishing his mural, and plans to have it done before school lets out. If you have a chance, stop by and take a look at both, as they are wonderful additions to the school!
