Ms. Boyum is an English teacher at RAHS. This is her first year here, and she teaches 9th-grade English and English Connections. She loves both of the classes she teaches, but if she could teach any class, she would choose to teach Contemporary Literature or a class about pop culture and social media.
Obviously, she loves teaching English, but Ms. Boyum’s love for literature goes further than that. She is an avid reader, and so far this year, she has read over 30 books.
She has both a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota.
Ms. Boyum’s favorite thing about being a teacher is the relationships that she has formed with her students. She became a teacher because she loves, “getting the chance to learn and be curious every day while also guiding students to do the same thing.”
She enjoyed her own high school experience and still keeps in touch with many of her high school friends, but if she were to change one thing about her high school experience, it would be the exposure to different people.
She said, “Growing up in a smaller town, I wish I had more opportunities to learn about different experiences from my own. I got that education in college but a headstart would have been nice.”
Something that people might not know about Ms. Boyum is that she has a twin brother who is 10 minutes younger than she is.
