RAHS drama channels their inner Shakespeare with their production of Twelfth Night. They started this journey on September 18th and ended it with four performances from December 14th-17th. Here are some exclusive interviews from some of the main leads in the play:
The questions we asked:
- What did you love most about playing your role?
- What were your favorite parts about being in this production?
- Did you connect with your character at all?
Carrie Thomas as Feste
- I loved the music I got to sing and getting to know who my character was and how they acted, it was a great experience.
- It is my first year at RAHS and I just loved making new friends and meeting so many talented people.
- would say me and my character are the same person. We’re goofy and funny but also very understanding and caring, and I see that in myself every day.
Cullen Koepp as Orsino
- Expanding my singing range and getting close to people I might not have.
- All of the incredibly nice people who were always there.
- I think everyone can relate to Orsino in a small way. I can probably think of a time almost all my friends being obsessed with someone and being hopeless on what to do.
Nadia Richardson as Viola/Cesario
- I really enjoyed playing a character that really challenged me as an actor and singer. I had to study the language of Shakespeare which was difficult but so fun.
- My favorite part was What Kind Of Man RU Gonna Be? because I got to dance and do some tricks in it!
- I totally connected with my character through our similar personalities. Figuring out the character helped me to figure out some cool things about myself!
Wen Van Riper as Malvolio
- I really enjoyed being able to just go all out and play a silly character who doesn’t really care what other people think!
- The people! Everyone was so kind and supportive and on each others side, especially when we’re just chatting and somewhat goofing around.
- I find that I do connect with Malvolio, hes just misunderstood! He wanted people out of his lady’s house and then he got tricked and locked in an outhouse!
Josie Lapalm as Olivia
- I loved playing a funny character that made people laugh and the fact I was able to sing such fun songs.
- My favorite part of the production was the set and lighting. It really brought the whole show together.
- I connect with my character through us both being delusional! It was so fun!
RAHS Drama puts in tons of work and time prior to show nights to ensure their performances run smoothly and efficiently. They spend months practicing right up to the very moment they hit the stage. From vocal warm-ups to practicing quick wardrobe changes and lift scenes, RAHS students make sure to practice it all. All that practice showed when RAHS students took the stage as they performed four wonderful shows for their audiences.
We can’t forget to mention the RAHS drama crew who are responsible for all the beautiful sets and props. We also can’t forget to talk about the beautiful music that the pit produces for the show! Overall every cast, crew, pit member and choreographer did an amazing job on this show, adding another RAHS production as a success!
