Many people may know Alice Oseman from her popular graphic novel series, Heartstopper, which became a hit Netflix series. What some may not know is she started her career writing novels. Radio Silence is her second novel. Unlike the first, Solitaire, this one has all new characters. This story follows new friends, Frances and Aled, as they navigate High school together. When Frances learns Aled is the voice behind her favorite podcast, her life seems complete. Little does she know, Aled’s life is silently falling apart.
Oseman has a great writing reputation, and this novel did not fall short. She handles mental health and struggles delicately and well. She ensures things are seen the way they are and doesn’t sugarcoat. She writes the characters with such simplicity, making them shine in the big moments. I love the plot and how it’s executed. Oseman keeps the drama realistic and relevant. The characters are relatable and loveable. Once this book is picked up, it’ll be hard to put down.
I give it a 9.5/10
