Alpine Ski Season is right around the corner, with dry-land practices starting November 14th. For the second year in a row, the Roseville and Stillwater Alpine Ski Season combined to form a co-op. This co-op was created because Roseville Alpine is lacking a coach, but Stillwater has many coaches and is willing to help out our racers with their experience and race techniques.
The Roseville Alpine Team is separated from Stillwater in the races, meaning we compete against each other; however, we combine our skiers and coaches during practice. Practices are at Afton Alps as soon as the snow begins to fall. Meets are located at Wild Mountain and Afton Alps throughout January and February.
Skiers all have different quirks in journeys on the slopes.
Carter Oyen (12), the boys captain said that his favorite song to play while skiing is “HYAENA” by Travis Scott.
Freshman Maya Black’s favorite song to play after getting down the hill is “I remember everything” by Zach Bryan.
Anthony Black (11) likes to prepare before the meets by having a “sing along” in the car, and “eating a lot of food at the carbo-load the night before.”
Natalie Weaver Olson’s (10) favorite part about the races is the “thrill of going fast but also realizing you can do hard things.”
Maya Black’s favorite part of the meets is the “improving my times and warming up by the fire.”
Junior Ryan Duce’s favorite snack in the Roseville tent at the bottom of the racing hill is “fruit snacks.” He stated that he enjoys stuffing his pockets with them, and eating them on the chair-ride up.
Anthony Black also loves fruit snacks because they are “refreshing” once they are cold from the weather.
Snacks and food aside, the racers have ambition and drive for the season. Duce expressed that his strategy for this season is to “finish strong.”
Anthony Black’s goal for this season is to “PR every race.”
Meanwhile Maya Black’s goal is to “beat Anthony Black.”
Weaver-Olson is looking forward to “getting better and getting to know the new people on the team.”
The team’s racers all expressed their excitement for the season because of the new equipment and the continued partnership with Stillwater’s Alpine Team. They are hoping for early snow and getting on the slopes quickly; additionally, they are wishing for satisfactory snow quality and favorable weather throughout the season.
Anyone interested in joining the Alpine Ski team can reach out to the captains: Marie Lohr, Miranda Gladstein and Carter Oyen (emails attached down below). There is still time to join and register!
