Roseville Area High School Junior Sara Kysylyczyn, a self proclaimed creative person, is currently writing her first novel.

“I got inspiration from the book Hatchet, which is about this boy who gets into a plane crash and has to survive,” said Kysylyczyn, when asked about her inspiration for her novel that she has titled Beating the Odds. “I like survival stories, so I decided to try my hand at writing one”.

Kysylyczyn had an explanation for the title, “Usually, you get stranded, you die. That’s how the world works. I know he’ll get rescued at the end of the book. That’s how survival stories work” said Kysylyczyn.

Kysylyczyn has had aspirations for writing for a while, “When I was little, I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. So I started writing overall then” said Kysylyczyn. “I started writing the book around January [and] I decided I wanted to start working on this novel again a couple weeks ago”.

“Not anytime soon. That’s for sure” said Kysylyczyn. Meaning, it will not be finished and published any time in the near future. It seems like school has taken the place of novel writing.
