In September to October We Celebrate Latine Heritage Month

Appreciation month is a time to recognize and honor and to focus attention on the contributions of the people. Examples of this are: Black history month, Hispanic heritage month, Asian American month and others.

The one that’s going on right now is Hispanic otherwise known as Latine heritage month.

The reason we do Hispanic heritage month is to honor the cultures and contributions of both hispanic and Latine Americans. The reason it’s important is because it helps keep them connected to their roots and form their identity as part of a larger community. Some Hispanic countries are Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Puerto Rico.

Hispanic heritage month was once a week-long celebration.

On September 17,1968, president Lyndon B. Johnson signed proclamation 3869, officially creating Hispanic heritage week. The goal was to honor the positive and widespread impact that people of hispanic descent have on the United States.

One way to celebrate Hispanic heritage month is by watching or reading Latine stories.  Netflix has assembled a wide-ranging collection of films and series featuring Hispanic and Latino stories and storytellers.

National Hispanic heritage month runs from Friday, September 15, 2023- Sunday, October 15,2023
